Why I won't put you off chocolate
A lot of people who come to see me for my New Leaf programme – weight loss, body confidence, and rebuilding a healthier relationship with food and your body – tell me the same thing.
“If I could just stop eating chocolate, everything would be fine.”
Chocolate becomes the scapegoat. The thing everything gets pinned on.
But the truth is, it’s rarely just the chocolate.
What’s usually underneath is how they see themselves, how they use food to regulate emotions, and the patterns they’ve built around eating. If chocolate disappears without those being addressed, something else simply takes its place. Because when food is used for comfort, stress relief or distraction, the specific food isn’t the real issue.
That’s why being ‘put off’ chocolate isn’t the solution on its own.
So why will I help someone become indifferent to crisps, but not take the same approach with chocolate?
Because they’re not the same.
Crisps are a standalone food. Chocolate isn’t. Chocolate shows up as birthday cake, ice cream, hot chocolate, celebrations, rituals and rewards – not just the bar eaten in the evening. Removing crisps entirely is realistic for many people. Expecting someone to eliminate chocolate forever usually isn’t.
That doesn’t mean nothing can change.
Through hypnosis, I can help reduce cravings, soften habits, and shift how chocolate is experienced so it loses its pull. This week alone, a client came back after their first New Leaf session and told me they hadn’t touched chocolate all week – without feeling deprived or white-knuckling it.
The difference is that the root causes were addressed, not just the symptom.
