From Infertility through spiders and flying: My journey to becoming a hypnotherapist

People often ask how I found my way into hypnotherapy. The truth is, the journey started long before I opened my business 15 years ago — it began during one of the most challenging periods of my life.

Going back nearly 20 years, after 5 years of infertility, the decision had been taken to embark on IVF treatment. It was a pretty tough time compounded by my high stress job and my mother-in-law (at the time) spending several months in intensive care. I decided that I needed to get some help with my stress levels and with dealing with the egg collection process. Not too much detail for the squeamish but it involved a long needle and stirrups. Enough said!

That was my first experience of hypnosis and it was amazing and profound and I’m delighted to say that the procedure worked and I gave birth to twins. The medical staff even commented on how relaxed I was during the procedure.

Fast forward a couple more years and I found myself pregnant naturally and decided to use hypnosis for the birth. Again, another profound experience. I loved being able to work through the early stages of labour feeling completely relaxed.

It was after my third child was born that I decided to start my hypnotherapy training. It’s training that lasts a year with lots of practical work and theory which was fascinating. I took the opportunity during that time to tackle another couple of issues that had been plaguing me my whole adult life – my fear of spiders and my fear of flying. Once again, it was really successful really quickly. I think nothing of flying off somewhere on my own now and will happily pop an intruding spider back out in the garden these days.

I can’t really believe that it’s been 15 years since those early days already and those longed for babies are adults and have left home! Hypnosis has been the most amazing journey for me and every day I see incredible transformations in my clients.

Isn’t it time you were one of them?

Common Therapies

I’m often asked what can hypnotherapy be used to treat and it’s such a difficult question to answer because the answer is just about anything where the subconscious is involved. Sometimes whatever that is doesn’t have an obvious connection to the subconscious so if you’re wondering if hypnotherapy can help you, the answer is most likely yes!

I’ve given a little more detail on some of the more common things I work with, however this is not an exhaustive list by any means. Feel free to contact me to find out how hypnotherapy can help you.
