This common fear affects more people than you think
One of the most common fears or phobias that I treat is the fear of driving.
Also known as amaxophobia (fear of being a passenger), ochophobia (fear of vehicles), motorphobia (fear of cars or riding in one) or hamaxophobia (fear of riding in a vehicle).
Actually the name isn’t important if you are a sufferer because it can make life a nightmare. Imagine not being able to pop to the shops or pick your child up from school or visit friends because you physically struggle to get behind the wheel or when you do, it is terrifying.
Sometimes we don’t know why people experience this or it can be from an accident, an extended break in driving say your partner always drives.
It can manifest in different ways. Sometimes it’s being a nervous passenger, car sickness, driving on motorways or driving on narrow country lanes. Sometimes it’s a certain speed or a certain road or going over or under bridges. Sometimes it extends to other forms of transport as well.
If this sounds familiar, you are not alone and there is hope. Consultations are free so why not get in touch to find out how I can help you or for more information.
