Why rewarding yourself with food is making you gain weight
Ever had a rough day at work and treated yourself to a takeaway/bottle of wine/chocolate?
Ever promised yourself that when you just get this next bit done then you can go to the fridge?
Ever dragged a protesting child on a walk with a promise of an icecream at the end?
Then you’ve been using food as a reward but hey, it’s not your fault, we’ve been conditioned to this from childhood. Schools give out sweets at primary level for 100% attendance or full marks in a test.
I remember a memorable session with a client whose Mum used to take them straight to the sweet shop after a successful dentist checkup.
Even something as simple as being told that you could have your pudding when you cleared your plate was a reward. That’s one of the places that your sweet tooth craving came from.
The great news is that it’s possible to untangle this little lot from your subconscious so that you can let go of this behaviour around food and many others.
