Creative Clients and the Power of the Subconscious
One of the things I find endlessly fascinating about the people I work with is how creatively they respond to hypnotic visualisations. They often take a simple prompt and instinctively personalise it—by adding a person, recalling a vivid memory, or placing themselves somewhere deeply meaningful. It’s not uncommon to hear things like, “That was so strange—I suddenly pictured the beach at Whitby, and I haven’t thought about that place in years.”
What’s so compelling about this is that the subconscious always seems to know where to go, even when the conscious mind can’t make sense of it. That deeper part of the mind knows the route to healing, balance, or insight—and it doesn’t need permission to take it. Recently, a particularly powerful moment came during a session where we were exploring mantras—short, affirming statements designed to support personal growth. Typical examples might include, “I am enough,” or “I love my body,” or “My confidence grows stronger every day.”
But this client was seeking more balance in their life. Instead of focusing on single affirmations, they intuitively created what I now think of as balancing mantras—simple pairs of words that reflected both aspiration and stability:
• Confidence and respect
• Wisdom and learning
• Energy and calm
Each phrase captured exactly where they wanted to be—not too much, not too little. Just the right blend. They didn’t need long explanations. The words spoke for themselves.
Sometimes, less truly is more.
Take a moment to reflect: what balancing mantras could guide you right now?
